Liberty Girls Retreat

My daughter and I went to the annual Liberty Girls Retreat on Thursday and it was wonderful!!! There were girls there from many different Liberty Girls Chapters.  They were highlighting the Kaya series of the American Girl books (mid 1700’s American Indian,) by learning about and doing crafts and activities based on that time period.

 

They got to do traditional face painting…

 

…make cornhusk dolls…

 

See a real teepee and sit inside of it while learning about what life would be like living in one…

 

A sweet woman from the Navajo tribe from Arizona came and talked about weaving, caring for babies… she sang them songs in Navajo… let them taste homemade beef jerky and dried berries… She was wonderful!

 

And they had some amazing traditional dancing for us to watch. So neat!!!

We had a great day!

 

And now for the fabric-y part of this post…

I was at the fabric store yesterday, intending to buy just one certain fat quarter that I needed… they didn’t have the certain fat quarter that I needed… but in the meantime I saw this gorgeous layer cake from the Merry Medley line. So lovely! ** I – just – had – to – get – it. **  You know how it goes. I guess I’ll just add it to my gonna-make-someday list. : )

 

And I finally totally finished my daughter’s birthday dress by sewing and putting on that cute bow on the waist band. Adorable!

Been Shoppin’!

It’s been almost two weeks since I last posted and time just keeps flying!  I haven’t even done any sewing in the last two weeks! Ugh. Oh well, that’s life sometimes!

I’m gearing up for another awesome semester with my Liberty Girls group. We’ll be reading the Josefina series from American Girl, and it is set in the time period of 1824 New Mexico. It is a great series! I read all the books a couple of months ago and am now preparing with my co-advisor for all the cool stuff we’re going to do.

First things first – buy fabric for the outfits for the girls and their 18” dolls!!! We’ll be having a Fandango (a party with music,dancing and food) in September with the girls and their families - it’s going to be amazing!

  This is the first book in the series, and the dress Josefina is wearing on the cover of the book is the one we’ll be making for our girls & their dolls. FUN!

14.5 yards of white fabric for the shirts…

23 yards of the red fabric for the skirts…

45 yards of 1.5” eyelet trim for both the shirts and skirts…

10.5 yards of plaid fabric for the rebozos (shawls)…

oodles of elastic, ribbon and thread…

still need to buy the patterns…

Now I’ve got to divide it up and deliver each set of supplies to some of the moms who will sew.  I think I’ll be sewing at least 4 girls and 3 doll outfits.

I love American Quilting's double punch Tuesdays! I wait all month to go there so I can have my purchases count for twice as much, which when my card is full I get $20 worth of free fabric! I know that my quilt (the one I'm gonna make with my California Girl charm packs) is not on the front burner right now, but I just really wanted to get the backing and binding for it. I LOVE THIS FABRIC for the backing! I love looking at it...

I'm excited to get into making my quilt with them, and yes, this quilt is going to be FOR ME! But it will be a while before I can start this quilt as there are a few others on the docket before it. I'm sure they will be calling to me and not letting me forget about them. : )

What a Fun way to start my new blog!!!

I just found out that I won 4 (four!) fabulous charm packs from sweet Angela of Cut to Pieces! I just started searching and enjoying quilting blogs about a month ago and decided to go ahead and enter one of these give-aways. I am one of those people who don't ever win anything... Well, I am now! Thanks so much to Angela!

I have been dreaming of getting some of this fabric to make a quilt, but knew it was going to be a while before I could, so needless to say, when I saw my name as one of the winners I was STUNNED! And so grateful! What a wonderful thing!

I'm pretty sure what kind of quilt I'm going to make and it's this one from my friend Marion's blog. I love it! And, I will have lots of squares left over so I will have to come up with something else that's fun to make! Happy quilting!
